Hi, I'm Terry
WHERE I COME FROM
My name is Terry Carlson. I was born in a little town in Snohomish County Washington called Granite Falls. It is a small town with rural Washington values. I was born into a logging family; in fact, I am a fourth-generation logger. I started my career in logging right out of high school. I always knew I wanted to be a logger, so while the rest of my peers went off the college, I was getting up at 3AM every day to go cut logs. It paid well, and it allowed me to travel throughout the Pacific Northwest. I logged in Oregon, Washington, Alaska and Canada. I lived in Forks, Washington until 2009, when I met and married my wife.

My wife had 2 daughters from a previous relationship, and I had a daughter from a previous marriage. We married, blended our families and moved to Anacortes, WA where we lived until 2017. Once our oldest kids graduated from school and went off to college we found ourselves moving to Longview, WA where I began working for Weyerhaeuser as a processor operator. This was my first union job. It was the first time I had health insurance, good pay, and benefits like paid time off.
MY CAREER AND BEYOND
During my time at Weyerhaeuser, I found myself with free time that I did not have before. I then went back to school at the local community college and got my AA degree and transferred to Washington State University (GO COUGS!). I graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. This degree has really helped me connect with people and get to the core of what people need, and not just what they want to hear.

In 2022 Weyerhaeuser union employees went on strike during contract negotiations. It was 6 long months of standing in the rain, making no money to fight for our rights to get better pay and benefits. During this time, I learned about union organizing and how to use the power of a union to make peoples lives better. I love unions because it is the purest form of social justice. I now use my knowledge of organizing to make our union better. This in turn makes people’s lives better.
